The excursion included the volcanic island, hot spring, Thirssas and Oia. We needed to go to the old port to take the boat. We could go to there by cable car but it was €5. We chose to walk down to the old port. We were a bit late so we kinda rushed down. On our way, there were dockets coming up which kinda block our way. We sometime needed to give our way to let them pass. I really felt sorry about the dockets because the staircase was quite steep and they needed to carry people even the fat Guy.... Also, some staircases were found shits from the dockets which was quite smelly and we needed to bypass the shits to avoiding stepping on them.
We finally got down to the port and unluckily our boat had been left already for 10mins. We were late for the boat. We ask the lady in the office if there was another boat and if we could take that one and she said one would be left at 1100 but not the boat for our excursion. We could still take that boat but we could only spend less time on the volcanic island to catch up with the correct boat that we should have taken it. We waited at the port for the next boat.
The view of the port with the classic boat, very blue sea and sky and the cliff nearby was amazing. We got on the boat and we sat on the upper deck.
We were surrounded by the Aegean sea which was magnificent. Now we headed towards the volcanic island. We could see some volcanic islands nearby and the rocks on those islands were in very black color and very big.
The boat arrived and parked next to other boats. We needed to pass through other boats to get to the entrance of the island. The fare to get inside was €2. This was the first time I saw a volcanic island so closed and stepped on it. I really felt excited to walk on the island.
There were many ashes on the road path and many big reddish volcanic rocks on both sides. There were also some little red plantations. I really liked exploring the nature to experience the geographic beauty. The paths were quite winding and we needed to get to the top quick as we needed to catch up the boat.
The view there was really breathtaking. The blue sky, blue sea, volcanic island and many different sizes, shapes and colors of volcanic rocks really amazed and impressed me. The geography lesson at secondary school suddenly popped up in my head. We took a lot of good photos here and I really liked to be so closed to the natural volcanic landscape.
We walked downhill and we got a bit lost but we could still get to the boat on time.
Afterthat, the boat sailed to the hot spring where we could swim in the spring which had 35°C. We already brought our swimming suit here. This was gonna be the first time for me to dive into the sea from a boat and to swim in a hot spring in Aegean sea, which was very meaningful and remarkable to me. As the boat approached the hot spring, we took turn to go to the toilet to wear our swimming suit. Today was quite sunny and I really wanted to get tanned for summer. The boat arrived near the seashore but it could not get to the hot spring because the sea was not deep enough.
We needed to swim towards the hot spring. We three got ready. I dived into the Aegean sea.
The sea there was really cold and we felt freezing. We kept swimming towards the hot spring to warm ourselves up. The sea water was very salty and I drank very little bit when I was swimming. Not many passenger swam. I thought just 20 people had dived into the sea. We kept swimming and we could see some red particles flowing in the water and we felt something soft when we stepped on the seabed, which was a bit disgusting. We felt warm and cold intermittently when we were in the middle. I really wished i had a go-pro here to capture this awesome moment. As we got closed to the end, we could stand onto the rocks and the rocks were all red in color. The water became warmer but we sometime also felt a bit cold. The water became very red and brown, maybe came from the rocks under us. I felt really happy to swim in the hot spring.
We stayed in the hot spring for about 5-10mins. Our boats rang the bell and we all swam back to our boat. This was my first adventure to nature and I wont forget this very memorable expereince. I hoped I could have more of this kind of expereince in Europe.
Our boats then sailed to a island called Thirssas. On its way, the sea wave was quite strong and the boat kept swinging on both sides. Sometimes I really thought it would capsize. We then changed our pants in the toilet.
Thirssia was once with the current main island but because of the tectonics plate movement, it became separated from the main island and there were only around 200 people living there.
We walked uphill again and there was shit from the dockets on the path. We found this island was quite remote as there were very little people, few shops and restaurants.
We walked a bit to the north. When we walked downslope, I slipped and my left feet got a bit injured and it bleed but I felt fine. We spent only around 30mins and then we went back and downhill to the port again.
We got on the boat and it sailed to Oia, the last stop.
Oia was a town on Santorini that had the most white and blue houses. We walked uphill again which was very exhausting. We arrived at Oia at 1530. We did not take the same boat back to the old port as we wanted to see the sunset as Oia sunset was the most beautiful and very famous in Santorini. Every houses there were very white that we could barely open our eyes as it was really bright and the light kept reflecting from the white walls.
We walked to the sothern part of Oia and we looked for Gyros again but we could not find one. We went into some sourvenir shops but the sourvenirs were much more expensive than those in Fira. We decided to buy them later. Someone passing us also wore white shirts, pants and shoes. Everything here was really white, which was beautiful.
Because there were 4 hours left till the sunset, we sat on the white bench in front of the white church and enjoy the sunbath. I really wished I had wore short pants.
1 Hour later, we went try to find the Gyros shop but in vain. How come there was no gyros shop. Around 1800, we walked to the north where had a good spectator stand to watch the beautiful sunset of Oia. There were more and more people than few hours ago and many chinese and some Hong Kong people but no Korean. Many shops sold female white shirts and skirts and some even sold jewelries. We got to the spectator stand at 1845 but only a few sitting there.
The wind there was fucking strong and chilly. We chose a good position to watch the sunset. When it was getting darker, more and more people came. We suffered from the cold wind for about 1 hour and the sunset came, which was very beautiful but not as beautiful as those on the internet.
But the sky still had some cloud which a bit blocked the sunset. That's why not many lights sheded on the white house.
10mins later, we left and rushed back to the bus station to take the bus back to Fira and had our gyros. The bus ticket was €1.6 and took around 20mins. We walked fast to the Gyros shop becuase we were so hungry. I ordered chicken gyro which tasted quite good. We ate our gyro on our way back to the hostel. I immediately took shower because my body was very sticky. Then we slept. What a good day!!
