23/04 Athens, Greece

We woke up at 0900 and went sightseeing. Santi told me all the museums and monuments was free for all studnrts studying ulin Europe, which as really a good news to me as we could save much money!!

We went to the metro and take a train to centre first. There was a kind of gas museum but we found no interest in it. We then walked a mounment nearby. There were quite a lot of scrulptures and statues.

It displayed the old stelai and how they discovered the stelais. Some were quite  special. We understood how they prepared for the dead. We then walked around the monuments and many monuments did not have many remains left.

Only some stones were kept still systemically. We need to imagine gohoelw it was like many years ago which was bit hard to us based on some rocks /marbies only.

Then, we went to Ancient aquo where displaydd much more status and scrulptures.

There was a museum in the monument site, which showed a lot of ancient container like jug, bowls but with different styles of paintings on them. Then, we went inside a little church in the site.

There were not as many churches as in ltaly. The church was quite different from the those in ltaly. The church was really cooled.

It had Jesus paintings in the wall. The centre was quite simple, not as grand as those in ltaly. Outside the church, there were really a lot of marbles remains of Athens and it was really hard to imagine how their original looks were.

We kept walking uphill towards the Parthenon . On our way, there was a little hill and we could climb onto it. From there, we could see the view of Athens and the Parthenon was on a higher hill behind us.

The marbles on the hill were quite slippery. The view of Athens was not as beautiful as it was in other European city. Actually, Greece view was not like European cities and it was more like Turkey. Then, we went towards the entrance of the Parthenon. All entry to these monuments were free of charge so far. There were marbles steps leading to the Parthenon and we walked uphill. On our way, there were not as many Asian tourists as those in ltaly and Switzerland.

Few minutes later, we saw the Parthenon!!

and it was again being repaired... Parthenon was once a temple to worship the goddess of Athena. Some statues were gone and only those in good condition were remained. There was a viewer point where we could see the view of Athens and the Temple of Zeus in the front and the Parthenon at our backs.

I took a Polaroid picture there. We stayed there for 15mins to admire the scenery and the Parthenon. There was another mounment next to the Parthenon which used to be a temple too. We then walked downhill and saw an old open theatre.

The seat were made of marbles. But it was much smaller than the theatre that I had sat in Turkey. After the Acroplics, we walked to the Temple of Zeus, where to worship the God of Zeus before.

The mounment only had that Temple and only one side of the wall was left. One statue was fallen too. Then, we walked to the The Olympic stadium where the first Olympic game was held. Wr needed to pay €1.5 to enter which was very cheap.

The stadium was very hugh. All seats were made of marbles. Except the entrance, the field was surrounded by the seats. The field I thought was much smaller than the standard one. Perhaps people in 20th century started to standardize the size of field.

We walked to the top of the spectator stands and admired the beauty of symmetry and the wisdom of building such beautiful stadium. There was a little museum inside the stadium which showed the history of the Olyimpic.

In a small room, we could also see different Olympics torches from different hosts and their old posters promoting the Olympics, which were very interesting. Then, We walked on the field and there was a stand at the end. I stood on the 1st position hahaahah.

Then, we walked to the city hall and Parliament just to take a look. We then went to another monument which was a library and a church.

We could see one wall of statues but other area was just filled with marbles, some statues. The floor plan given to us explained what was there. We saw the signs next to the every site. If not, we could not know what was there simply by looking the marbles.

Then, we went to Rome aguo which was just next to it. Rome aguo tried to transfer the commercial and adminstraive activities from the ancient aguo and it tried to follow the Roma Forum. Again, many marbles were scattered in different part of the mounment. We needed to use our imagination to think how it was like in the past.

It was almost 1930. We took the metro to get back to the hostel and then went to supermarket to buy pasta sausage and cheese for dinner and bread, water and snacks for tomorrow. There was no stove in the kitchen but only the microwave. Again, we put the pasta inside the microwave to cook it and put cheese and sausage onto the pasta and cook it again, which was delicious. We taught Santi how to do it next time when he travelled alone and wanted to save money. We then took shower and slept.
