22/06 Ghent, Belgium

I woke up late as today I just planned to spend an afternoon to Ghent and took euroline at 2130 back to Mannheim. I checked out at 1100. and I sat at the common aewa and wrote postcards and deleted some photos on my camera to have more space and charged my phone.

I left around 1300 and walked to the station. Took a train to Ghent which just took 25mins. I did not go to any info center as I already got a map from my hostel in Brugge. I wanted to leave my bag in a locker at the station. But the euroline stop was at Damport station. Then, I took another train to Damport. But, wth. The lockers at Damport were all not working. So I carried my bag whole day.

I walked towards the centre. I went inside a church first. Then, I went a famous castle in the centre. This castle looked really nice. There was a river next to it and people were kayaking.

The view was beautiful. Then I walked to the centre. Wow.. So beautiful. There were 4 main buildings in the centre and all of them were beautifully designed.

There was a river separating two of the buildings and the view was very nice. I did not expect Ghent was that beautiful. I walked around the city center, which was quite big and filled with people.

Then I wanted to go back to the castle to take a Polaroid. I asked a Guy to help me. He wanted to see how it would be. Then, we had a bit chat during waiting. He was very nice and we talked about travel experience. The Polaroid was amazing. I then said I wanted to go to buy a waffle and then went to bus stop. But he asked me to join dinner with him and he said he paid for me! I kept saying no but he insisted.I then walked with him to a restaurant to see how much it was.

It was very expensive to me and i said dont pay for me but he still insisted. As he was so eager to pay for me, then I accept his invitation. He ordered me a Belgian salad. I said small was fine but he said small was not enough. He asked if I liked wine. I said water was fine. I did not need to drink wine but finally he ordered a wine. We then chatted a lot about travel, Europe, Belgium, China, Hong Kong. He gave me his name card and he was a pharmacist. No wonder why he could travel a lot. And he was now 49.  I wrote down my name and email to him.

We had a very nice dinner next to a river. He was very very nice. The bill i guess was around 80€ in total....This was the best dinner I ever had in Belgium as I always just went to supermarket to buy cheap food to cook lol. I told him if he came to Hong kong, tell me. Then we said goodbye to each other at a street and I walked to Damport to take euroline back to mAnnheim, which took 8 hours...
